How do I protect properties and myself if my alcoholic housemate hurts someone?

default-avatar
Answered by attorney Robert Morrison Lucky (Unclaimed Profile)
Personal Injury lawyer at The Lucky Law Firm, PLC
If you fear that she could hurt someone due to her addiction, then I would definitely recommend that you cut ties from her regarding the vehicle and the insurance just out of sheer safety. Technically, you would not be the one sued if she hurt someone while behind the wheel. However, if she owns a home with you, then someone may try to come after her portion of the home or at least place a lien on the home which could affect future attempts to sell the home.

Can the at-fault party's insurance company require me to submit medical bills through my insurance first?

Yes. Your PIP (personal injury protection), also sometimes called first-party, benefits come from your auto insurance carrier. They include things such as, but not limited to, medical expenses, mileage for your travel to and from medical appointments, replacement services, and wage loss.

How much are you fined for failing to yield at a controlled intersection, resulting in a accident?

Answered by attorney Jeffrey Lapin (Unclaimed Profile)
Personal Injury lawyer at Lapin Law Offices
Although your question does involve an automobile accident, your question is really a criminal question. I do not practice criminal law so I cannot answer your question. I would suggest re-asking your question in the "Criminal" and "Criminal Defense" Law Areas.
