You may be able to do this but you are likely to need to apply for a waiver. Your case will require a very thorough analysis. You should definitely speak to a qualified immigration professional since the (provisional) waiver process is complicated.

If you will be in India you may want to get a Re-entry Permit. Will you be entering the U.S. every 6 months? Can your organization preserve the continuity of your residence for Citizenship purposes?
