He cannot work officially until he gets a work authorization. If you have already filed adjustment status for him, call the 1800 in the receipt and request the work permit be issued earlier than 90 days because he has a job offer.

It is currently taking about 3 months to get a green card through a marriage to a US citizen (regardless of the visa overstay issue). However, the person should wait to get their green card before travelling outside the US.
