Inquiry about immigration status in USA

Answered by attorney Alan Lee
Immigration lawyer at Alan Lee Arthur Lee, Attorneys at Law
If you have lived in India since 2002 and your temporary green card in your passport expired in 2002, you have undoubtedly lost your permanent residence. You will not be able to regain it by filing an I-90 application to replace your permanent resident card. If you are interested in obtaining a visa to come to the US for employment, I suggest that you make an appointment with an immigration lawyer who can go over your options for a working visa. Due to the limitations of the Lawyers.com Forums, Alan Lee, Esq.'s (the "Firm") participation in responding to questions posted herein does not constitute legal advice, nor legal representation of the person or entity posting a question. Well once you get the work authorization approved, you should also apply for a social security card.

I am now 22 years old and in school can I petition my parents even if they came here illegally?

Immigration lawyer at Havens Lichtenberg PLLC
If you are a US citizen, you can file immigrant petitions for your parents. The problem is that, under the law as it stands now, they will not benefit from the approval of your petitions because they came here illegally and are not eligible to receive green cards. Like so many other families, yours just will have to wait for the Congress to change the law.
