Can I make a large purchase after I filed for divorce without sharing the purchase with my husband?

Answered by attorney Brent R. Chipman
Divorce lawyer at Law Office of Brent R. Chipman
It depends on whether or not you use your own funds for the purchase, and also if by using the funds for the purchase, you deprive the other spouse of marital assets that should have been used for their support. One way to avoid the problem is to wait until the decree is entered to make the purchase, or to minimize the amount of any down payment for the purchase. A large purchase on credit does not provide an asset with any worth for the court to divide.

My husband and his attorney are refusing to participate in a settlement conference, is trial the only option left?

Answered by attorney Dorothy Spinelli (Unclaimed Profile)
Divorce lawyer at Law Offices of Dorothy Spinelli
I agree with you. I think your husband's attorney is trying to stonewall you as you are not as familiar with the legal divorce process. You can request the Court to send the case to mediation, but you will probably need an attorney there as well.

Where do you store your childrens vital documents after a divorce?

Answered by attorney Diana L. Anderson
Divorce lawyer at Diana L. Anderson
Both parents have access to obtain the documents, so it is conceivable that duplicate sets of documents exist. The school is also required to send information to both parents, including transcripts of grades.  The only legal document belonging to the children that I think you cannot have a duplicate of is a passport.  That could be kept in a safe deposit box, the cost of which is very minimal and can be split by the parties.  Otherwise, duplicate sets of records can be maintained.
