Will a notarized promissory for alimony hold up in court?

You should have any written documents of agreement looked over by an attorney before you sign them. It may or may not hold up in court depending how it is written.

What is the Michigan law regarding spousal support and 401k and what are the requirements in a divorce?

Wow! I could spend about two hours on this! Generally a 401(k) is divisable. Each party would get one half of the amount accrued during marriage. Anything contributed before or after the marriage is generally not touchable. Six years is long enough to get minor alimony for a short time but without significantly more knowledge of the circumstances I would say unlikely. Getting divorced requires that the objects of matrimony to have broken down that's it but the variations on the theme make it absolutely necessary that you retain counsel.

Speak with you lawyer, no matter what else the parties divorcing should have enough sense to preserve as much money as possible for distribution between themselves.
