Ken serves in an Of Counsel role at Mathews & Jones. Ken previously spent eighteen years at The St. Joe Company (“St. Joe”) in a variety of positions including most recently as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary. Prior to serving as General Counsel, Ken held various positions of increasing responsibility within St. Joe, primarily in the legal department. Ken began his career with the private practice of law in South Carolina and then spent seven years with The Walt Disney Company prior to joining St. Joe.
With over 25 years of in-house experience in a variety of roles on behalf of two of Florida’s largest and most respected companies, Ken is a well-rounded, multi-faceted attorney. Ken possesses a unique perspective on problems faced by companies as well as an understanding of the need for timely, practical advice on complex matters. Ken represented all of St. Joe’s business units (real estate development, resorts and hospitality, commercial leasing and sales, and forestry) while advising the publicly traded NYSE company on governance issues, Securities and Exchange Commission reporting and disclosure requirements, and other corporate and securities matters. Ken was involved in projects like Watercolor, Watersound and Pier Park from inception.
As a result of his background, Ken has experience in all types of transactions and agreements and can assist clients in a wide variety of business and real estate matters.
Ken has actively served a number of local community organizations including St. Rita’s parish, Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast, Northwest Florida Ballet, Seaside Neighborhood School, St. Joe Community Foundation, and numerous homeowner associations.
He earned his J.D., cum laude, from Wake Forest University School of Law, and his B.S., from Clemson University. He is admitted to the bars of Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.
Ken has been married to his wife Laurie since 1996 and together they are raising four children.
