Will a civil fine for shoplifting show up on a background check?

You did not seek the advice of an attorney at the time. You should have done that. Now, you have a mess, not so much from being charged with a crime, because you were not criminally charged, but because Walmart now has you in their database of thieves. They can do anything that they want to do with your information as far as making it available to other retailers or perhaps insurance companies. I do not think that it will show up on a regular criminal background check.

What can I do for petty theft under $100?

Answered by attorney Bruce H. Lehr
Criminal Law lawyer at Lehr Levi & Mendez, P.A.
If you are innocent then rake the case to trial. There is also a pretrial diversion program which if successfully completed leads to the dropping of the charge.
