I got arrested & charged with Petty Theft, my court is in 2 months. What exactly will show up on my record as of now?

You now have a record that shows in detail the arrest and charges filed. If convicted, that will go on as well. You are always entitled to represent yourself in court. Whether you should is a different issue. The conventional wisdom is that an attorney will be able to do a better job and get a better outcome. Prosecutors and judges don't like dealing with ProPers, unless you are simply pleading guilty, not defending the case. If you don't know how to represent yourself effectively against an experienced prosecutor intending to convict, then get an attorney who does, who will try to get a dismissal, charge reduction, diversion, programs, or other decent outcome through motions, plea bargain, or take it to trial if appropriate. If you can't afford private counsel, then apply for the PD at your first court hearing, and listen to his advice.

I missed my court date for a DUI, what would be the consequence?

It really depends upon in which County your case will be heard. If you can submit a plausible excuse for failing to appear, the chances are that the Court will recall and dismiss the warrant, release you on your own recognizance and dismiss the failure to appear charge, if one was added. An Attorney would likely have a better chance of making the foregoing happen than if you appeared on your own. The Court may require you to post bail, so if you go to Court without a lawyer, contact a bail bondsman first.

Is it illegal to just date a 22 year old if you are 16?

J Matthew Catchick
Answered by attorney J Matthew Catchick (Unclaimed Profile)
Criminal Law lawyer at Catchick Law, P.C.
Unless the other person is in a position of authority or control over the younger party, the "age of consent" (when you are allowed to have sex) in Michigan is 16. So, as long as the 22 year old is not the 16 year old's teacher or coach or something like that, then consensual sex is legal.
