It shouldn't affect it at all.  If you're able to qualify for a loan, then you can take one out.  Be careful, however, about using estate assets to use as a down payment.  If you're unsure about this, you should discuss with a bankruptcy attorney in your area. Also, if you can afford a vehicle payment, there may be a surplus in your budget which could cause issues with you being in a Chapter 7 case.  But without reviewing your petition and schedules, I can't say for sure. If the property is foreclosed upon for failure to pay taxes, and it is purchased at auction, then the purchaser takes the property, but subject to any other liens or interests. So if there is a mortgage on the property, home equity loan, etc. it goes with the property. If there is no foreclosure sale and you just pay the taxes, it is a gift, unless you have some other agreement, in writing with the property owner.
